Programs
Training of Trainers (TOT)
The Training of Trainers (TOT) program, an offshoot of the POP, offers facilitation training and support for other communities interested in adopting the "Educate and Inspire" curriculum and creating a similar program to empower parents. The TOT is currently available in Spanish. An English adaptation for African-American parents is under development and will be piloted in Portland in the fall of 2010.
Parent Organizing Project (POP)
The Parent Organizing Project is a community organization focused on reaching out to and helping low-income, immigrant, non-English speaking parents by providing nine basic workshops on how schools operate and how to be involved, and, for parents interested in further growth, leadership development and opportunities, advocacy and civic training, all designed to improve education and academic achievement for Latino youth in Oregon.
McKay Area Coalition for Student Success (MACSS)
The Salem/Keizer Coalition for Equality launched the McKay Area Coalition for Student Success (MACSS) in the fall 2006 to address the needs of McKay High School and its feeder area of 10 elementary and 2 middle schools. McKay High School has one of the most diverse populations of 2000 students in the state of Oregon, and is one of the few high schools in the state to be designated as a Title I (low-income) high school.
Oregon Parent Education Center (OPEC)
The formal opening of the Oregon Parent Education Center in February 2010 inside the Jim Ramsey III Community Center provided an opportunity to celebrate ten years of advocacy and parent education in the Salem-Keizer area, while launching an exciting and new expansion of services and programs. The Center is part of the Salem-Keizer Coalition for Equality (SKCE), a non-profit organization with a long history of leadership and advocacy in education reform, justice, and equality in Oregon.
